“Savannah Squares”
While visiting Savannah, Georgia one spring season, we were quite taken with the beauty and peaceful qualities of the city squares. A series of 24 lush, green squares sprinkled with flowers, fountains, statuary, and places of rest, can be found throughout the city, each with it’s own beauty and history. Enjoyed every day by residents and visitors alike, these squares inspired me to design the first pieces in my “Savannah Squares” collection.
I created the rich texture on each argentium silver square form by impressing Spanish Moss into the silver metal with a steel rolling mill; the moss, a nod to the live oaks, festooned with it, is seen everywhere, throughout Savanah.
Savanah Squares then evolved into “Squares Too “; the flavor of the original Collection is maintained, with “Squares” as the hallmark feature, but patterns in the metal will vary. First introductions included dimensional, fabricated square pieces, hammered with a raw silk like texture. I love square shapes, so I expect you will see more Squares come along as well!
All of these pieces were formed by hand, using hammers and stakes and traditional metalsmithing methods.
My wish for you is to feel my memory of peace and beauty with your chosen Squares” design, Savannah, or otherwise!
