I use the process of reticulation to create my rustic crosses in a free-form, organic style. Reticulation is a semi-controlled method of melting silver into unusual, organic forms. “Semi-controlled”, because you may start off with a design plan, but with the reticulation process, serendipity often takes over and can bring you down a different road! I use this reticulation process on my “chirch time” series of crosses, among other designs. These pieces are made with argentium and sterling silver and when finished, show a subtle texture and fine patina, with a shiny chain for eye catching contrast.
I also make crosses with a more modern twist, featuring a soft brushed or shiny finish, colorful torch fired copper and other alternative and fine metals. I prefer true handmade, so I forge and form all sheet metal and wire by hand with hammers, anvils, pliers, and other small hand tools.
What I choose to create on any given day just depends on where inspiration – and serendipity – take me that day!
All are one-of-a-kind and truly a joy to create.
