Hand made · The Chain of Antiquity
The oldest style of chain ever found in antiquity, it is the predominant chain type used for gold and silver jewelry from the early Bronze Age in the Middle East, until the end of the Middle Ages. The earliest surviving examples of this chain are those discovered in the royal graves in the ancient city of Ur, in Mesopotamia, (modern day Iraq) dating to around 3000 BC.
I appreciate the classic yet substantial nature of this chain and enjoy being able to make it by hand much the same way as those in the distant past made it. A multi- step process, I create my loop in loop chain of modern, tarnish resistant, Argentium Silver, by first making each individual round link by hand, forming each link with pliers, then weaving each of them together, one by one. I then “true” the chain with several additional steps including use of a wooden draw plate. Finally, I create a soft, brushed finish and a hand-forged clasp for each chain. This style of chain is surely the most timeless as it truly complements all styles of jewelry! I am able to use these versatile chain links in several different collections to make earrings, bracelets and neck chains of various lengths as well as chains complemented with metal beads and beautiful natural stones.
My hand made classic Loop in Loop Chains can be made into any length neckpiece, bracelet or earrings. Contact me with your request and I will be happy to forward an estimate to you.
